In that time it has built a reputation as a fair, respected, trusted and quality outfit offering services to owners of fine hand-made Oriental rugs. The business revolves around cleaning, which is a periodic necessity for any rug owner. Cleaning generates more than 50 percent of the revenue, but this standard service also gets the company in people s homes to sell add-on services that drive up the average ticket price. Repairs, maintenance and restoration are the other primary income sources, as is rug storage. Another aspect that creates revenue is direct sales when customers make that request. Through contacts with dealers and other customers looking to sell their rugs, many times these transactions can be handled by the company, almost acting as a broker. The company does all repair work and cleaning in its own facility, providing free pick up and delivery of the rugs to the customers. Pricing is based on square footage of the rug for cleaning, and then linear footage for repair work. Other services such as moth-proofing and scotch-guarding are charged per square foot as well. The cleaning process takes about 10 days from start to finish, and they handle about 50 rugs per month. Repair jobs vary drastically in the amount of time needed to complete. The owner does 10% of the repair work himself and can train adequately in 30 days.
